WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania — A 9-1-1 call came in for an elderly woman with lower back pain. The Wayne County Communications Center received a quick response of “Waymart 1” over the radio. Unfortunately for the patient, the person who responded on the radio was an imposter and the 78-year-old woman waited over an hour for assistance before the real Waymart Ambulance crew responded.
In response to the incident, Waymart will have a dozen radios programmed with identifiers so communication center dispatchers know the radio communication is authentic. Waymart is also conducting an investigation to see if it was one of their employees or possibly a disgruntled applicant who was rejected. [Read the full story…]
