i have my ohio emyt-b certification…. and i want to move to california and practice there…. does this mean i have to take the whole class over again there? or just a refresher?
EMTResource.com says
Hi Nicholas,
Unfortunately, you cannot transfer your Ohio EMT-B certification directly over to California. In order to become an EMT-B in California, you need have an active NREMT certification. Once you have your NREMT certification, you can apply to become an EMT-B in California. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.
EmJay says
I’ve heard that depending on where you go in Cali you may need additional certifications beyond state certification as specified by whatever county or city you’re in. Is this true? Can it be difficult to practice as an EMT-B even with a California license?
Kimber says
Same exact boat here. I am an EMT in utah and will be moving back to California soon. I have already filled out the NREMT app and im waiting for a testing time. After I complete this do I have to apply all over again for a certification or do I just let the hiring ems agency know I am a NREMT?
EMTResource.com says
Hi Kimber,
You’ll need to take your NREMT certification to the local EMS agency of where you’re planning on working and re-apply. Here’s a list of EMS agencies in California:

I am currently going through the EMT program in California and will be moving to Illinois. Will any of it transfer or would I need to do everything again in Illinois?
EMTResource.com says
Hi Jason,
We looked at the Illinois Department of Public Health website and it appears your EMT class will transfer over; however, you’ll need to fill out the EMT Reciprocity Application below since your training was outside of Illinois:
http://www.idph.state.il.us/ems/forms/EMS_EMT_Reciprocity_Application.pdf
Hope this helps and let us know if you have any further questions!

I work for an air medical transport and this question came up in discussion.
All medics are nationally registered as well as state licensed and the nurses are licensed in the state as well. Can we legally take a flight that originates outside of our licensed state (ex. licensed in OH flight originates in PA)?
Rebecca says
Hi. I am an EMT-B in the state of Pennsylvania, and am interested in working in West Virginia. Is this transfer possible? Thanks.
Jim says
I have reviewed the New York State reciprocity information. I am an EMT registered with NREMT (already transitioned from EMT-B to EMT). I am currently certified in Connecticut. New York’s information seems to indicate I can obtain reciprocity, but only if I have taken written and practical exams within the last 18 months. It is not clear to me, based on the NYS info, if a Connecticut refresher qualifies. If it does, I would still have to wait, to apply to NYS, as CT is a 3 year renewal, and I last took a refresher 24 months ago. Can anyone clarify this?

I currently have my emt license in the state of kansas. I let my nremt lapse in june of 2014 since it is not required to keep my state license. My question is what will it take to get a license for nebraska to work as an emt?

I am a medic in NY and may be moving to Arizona. Can I transfer my license?
Sarah Minkoff-Baylis says
I think you need to check if Arizona requires NREMT. Once you have that, you can do reciprocity. I’m moving to Nevada in Clark county and it’s the same there. I can’t just work there from NYC. Good Luck.

Manny says
Hello I am currently taking an EMT-B course in Texas and I am looking to move to Nevada once I take the NREMT test will I be able to take the state test in Nevada without having to take an additional course?
Sarah Minkoff-Baylis says
I’m moving to Nevada this summer. From what I’ve found, you need NREMT and then apply for reciprocity after you have Nevada Residency. Clark County is different though. if you plan on living in Las Vegas, like I do, then you need to apply with a different application. If you have the NREMT, you can apply for reciprocity no problem. I didn’t find anything about taking an additional state exam after the NREMT.
refer to table above says
yes
Kenshin says
I’m an emt-b in Florida. Im thinking of moving to Nevada. Will I have to start from scratch
Sarah Minkoff-Baylis says
Get your NREMT and then apply for reciprocity. Keep in mind that Clark County ( vegas ) is not the same as Nevada. They have their own application. I’m moving this summer and have to complete my NREMT, before I apply. Good Luck.

I am about to become a paramedic in Ohio and I am going to take the NREMT. I am moving to Indiana after I get my degree. Do I have to take any refresher courses or can I just go to the department where I want to work and tell them I am a paramedic and have taken the NREMT? Would it be better if I just take classes and get my degree in Indiana?

Hi. I am currently a nationally registered EMT-B in the state of Massachusetts but I am moving to Illinois in April. Am I able to transfer my certification to Illinois being that I am nationally registered or will I be required to take an Illinois based training course and pass an additional illinois examination process in order to obtain an Illinois certification? Any help or advice to guide me in the process would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention to the matter.
