A burglar broke inside an Akron fire station and took a bullet-proof vest.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. Wednesday at the department's Fire Station No. 2 at 952 E. Exchange St., according to a report filed with Akron police.

The suspect removed a screen and entered through an unlocked shower room window. Police say firefighters were on a run and two paramedics were sleeping when the break-in occurred.

Someone rummaged through cabinets, desk drawers and lockers before the vest, valued at $160, was taken from a firefighter's locker, according to the report. No suspect has been identified.
