For those of you in the Southern California region that are interested in applying with CAL Fire or the U.S. Forest Service:
www.swccd.edu/5thLevel/index.asp?L4=322
The academy appears to be about 4 months long and includes the following courses to obtain your "
Red Card" certification:
- S-130 Wildland Firefighter Training
- S-190 Intro to Wildland Fire Behavior
- L-180 Human Factors on the Fire Line
- ICS 100 Intro to Incident Command System
Here's what's really cool about the academy:
At the end of the academy management personnel from the Forest Service come to the college to observe testing, hand-out certificates and recruit for seasonal and permanent jobs with the Forest Service. Students interested in employment start the application process immediately for seasonal, emergency on-call and apprentice wildland firefighter jobs including engine, hotshot and helitack crews.
